What a Home Automation Hub Actually Does

A home automation hub, or controller, is the single brain that ties every subsystem in the house together so they act as one system instead of a dozen disconnected gadgets. It's the difference between a smart bulb you poke at in one app and a home where a single "good night" command drops every light, arms the security system, sets back the thermostat, closes the shades, and turns off the last TV someone left on. On our installs the controller is a dedicated Control4, Savant, or Crestron processor that runs the automation locally, in your house, so your lights, climate, shades, and audio keep working when the internet is down. A properly built hub coordinates:

• Lighting across every keypad, dimmer, and scene, so occupancy and daylight drive the house. Add Lutron lighting scenes as their own project or part of the whole-home build.
• Climate, with smart thermostats and zoning you can reach from anywhere, plus energy monitoring.

Control4 vs Savant vs Crestron: Which Platform Fits Your Home

There is no single best automation platform, only the best match for how complex your home is and how you like to interact with it. We're certified dealers for all of them, so we recommend the right fit instead of the one we happen to stock.

Control4

Control4 has the widest device support and the deepest feature set of the three, which makes it the workhorse for full-feature whole-home systems that need to talk to a long list of third-party gear.

Savant

Savant is built around a more refined, streamlined user interface, often driven from an iPad. Homeowners who care most about how the control experience looks and feels tend to prefer it.

Crestron

Crestron is enterprise-grade and is where we go for the largest estates, the Lake Minnetonka and Orono-scale projects running 30+ audio zones, 15+ displays, and 40+ lighting circuits. And Lutron sits alongside all three for lighting and shades.

Certified Dealers, Not a Box Reseller

Anyone can order a smart plug online. Being a certified dealer for a real automation platform is a different thing: we're certified dealers for Control4, Savant, Crestron, and Lutron, which means we're trained and authorized to design, install, program, and support each platform, and we can register your system, push firmware, and service it long after the install is done. That certified-dealer status buys you real programming written to your home, registered and updatable systems, a single accountable integrator, and access to the full product line. These systems also work with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit; those are the supported voice ecosystems.

Installing a Smart Home: From Entry Package to Estate

Installing a smart home is not a one-size job, and we scale it deliberately. Our projects range from $12K entry-level smart-home packages up to full Lake Minnetonka estate installs, and we build the wiring backbone so the small version can become the big version later without tearing walls open twice.

1. Entry package. Lighting control, a smart thermostat, a few automation scenes, and voice control on one hub, wired so you can add security, shades, and audio later on the same platform.
2. Whole-home mid-tier. Lighting, climate, security, motorized shades, and multi-room audio all on one Control4 or Savant system, with the cameras and locks folded in and viewable from your phone.
3. Estate-scale. The Orono and Crystal Bay projects: 30+ audio zones, 15+ displays, and 40+ lighting circuits on Crestron or a heavily built Control4 system, with long cable runs converted to single-mode fiber where they exceed Cat6A's 328-foot limit.

A lot of what we retrofit are 1980s Plymouth split-levels and older Deephaven and Woodland homes wired with 14/2 Romex and no structured cabling, so a clean automation retrofit means fishing new Cat6A through finished walls. On Plymouth projects we pull low-voltage permits through the City of Plymouth building department.
